Do you read the magnificent Gala Darling? If not you are in for a treat. She’s such a positive and inspiring force. One of my favourite posts of hers are “Things I Love Thursday”; a list of things you are grateful of. I am adopting this weekly feature because I think it’s important to focus on the things you love and that make you happy.
– My new winter coat by Quartz Nature, while it’s not the most flattering coat in the world it keeps me warm and is entirely synthetic. No animals were harmed in the making of this coat 🙂 I purchased mine from Logan and Finley, a eco friendly general store on Queen West. If you live in Toronto you have to visit.
Kusmi BB Detox Tea

Dinner made by my man last nite: home made gnocchi. Yum!
Whats on your list?
It’s been a year since I read No More Dirty Looks and literally threw away all my beauty products to start anew.
Having always been obsessed with skincare and makeup, over the years I had found my “holy grail” products; Cle de Peau concealer, YSL Touche Eclat, Armani Luminous Silk, Shiseido’s liquid eyeliner, NARS Deep Throat blush, Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair, SK II Essence, Embryollise Lait Creme Concentrate, Aveda’s Shampure, my beloved Fracas perfume…
I did it all at once. I went to Whole Foods and bought one of everything I felt I needed – mascara, concealer, shampoo, blush and threw out all my old “bad” products. I kept the Fracas and Armani foundation for “emergencies” but finally threw them out for good a couple months ago.
I hated everything at first and debated going back to my old favourites. My skin freaked out. The natural mascara would smudge under my eyes and make my eyes burn. My hair never felt or looked clean. Even so, I soldiered on because of two things: the knowledge that these chemicals are bad for my health and most of these products are tested on animals.
I spent a lot of money and tried a lot of products throughout the year. After some trial and error, I found new favourites that challenge my old toxic ones. My skin is clearer. My hair feels healthier. My head hurts less (I suffer from migraines). I FEEL better.
I learned not every company claiming to be green really are. Many give the illusion they are good for the environment and you but if you examine their ingredients you’ll see it’s all a lie. Even Whole Foods sells products with toxic chemicals in them!
I look forward to sharing my new, clean and non toxic favourites with you. Stay tuned…
